While working at Sarg Design Studio, I undertook a project to enhance the accessibility and usability of the public bus transport system in Pune, India, operated by PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd). The main objective was to improve the commuter experience by providing clear and easily understandable information about bus routes and services, addressing a significant gap in the city's public transport infrastructure.
Prior to this project, Pune lacked a comprehensive, user-friendly information system for its bus network, making it challenging for commuters to navigate the city efficiently. This deficiency often led to confusion, wasted time, and a general reluctance to use public transportation.
The project involved creating comprehensive bus route transit maps that were prominently displayed at bus stops in the city. These maps offered clear and detailed route information, significantly improving the clarity of the bus service for passengers. They included visual representations of bus routes, key landmarks, and transfer points, allowing commuters to easily plan their journeys and understand the broader context of the bus network.
In addition to the physical maps, I designed an intuitive digital interface that visually depicted bus routes. This interface made it easy for commuters to track the entire path each bus took, simplifying navigation across the network. Users could see the complete route of any bus, identify important stops and landmarks along the way, and understand where they could transfer to other routes.
